NEW TO MAVERICK

Rudd Estate

Founded in 1996 by Leslie Rudd, Rudd Estate is a multigenerational winery handcrafting small production wines that reflect the ultimate expression of its world-class terroir by respecting the traditions of the past, challenging the present and imagining future possibilities. Over the course of two decades, the team at Rudd Estate has become intimately familiar with the geologic nuances that make its terroir unique: iconic red volcanic soils, the alluvial fan, and the subterranean stream beds. Vineyards located in Napa Valley’s most celebrated Oakville appellation produce red Bordeaux varietals, and vineyards located on Mt. Veeder at a 1500-foot elevation produce Rudd’s Sauvignon Blanc and Susan’s Blanc. These white wines are a unique expression of these varietals and a rarity in the Valley given hillsides are typically reserved for red varietals.

Massaya

In the early 1990s, the Ghosn family faced the formidable task of reclaiming their ancestral property, Tanaïl, in the Beqaa region, which had been adversely affected by civil war and occupied by squatters. Employing their negotiation skills, the family managed to regain control of the land, but with no clear vision of the next steps, they diversified into various local agricultural pursuits, including dairy, dry raisins, arak, and molasses. All these products found a place in a corner of the family pharmacy, reflecting their entrepreneurial spirit during challenging times. During a visit to France, Sami Ghosn stumbled upon a distinctive blue bottle from Germany, which inspired the branding of Massaya arak. A friend from a leading advertising agency, Dany Richa, contributed to the initial branding and suggested the name Massaya, denoting twilight in Lebanese, capturing the essence of the Beqaa's sky at sunset.... continue reading.

Dizsnoko

Disznókő estate is named after the vineyard of Disznókő, first recorded in 1413. The name Disznókő means "wild boar stone", referring to a large volcanic rock found at the heart of the vineyard or according to some geographers to the shape of the hill where the vineyards are planted. Since AXA Millésimes acquired the property in 1992, the estate groups a series of historical contiguous vineyards around the winery. Once owned by aristocratic families for centuries, these vineyards are famous for their remarkable terroirs which produce great wines. Thanks to its know-how and experience, Disznókő is recognised today as being in the forefront of the renaissance of the truly great Tokaj wines.
